Garth Brooks Teases The Resurrection of Chris Gaines

Could Chris Gaines make a comeback? According to Garth Brooks, his fictitious Australian alter ego might show his goatee wearing face once again, and I am here for it!

Fans of Garth Brooks will never forget the phenomenon that was the 1999 album, The Life of Chris Gaines when our beloved Brooks transformed from a good old country boy into a sex-addicted Australian rocker with emo, centre part, draping over the eyes bangs. Gaines possessed a sweet falsetto, smouldering stare, and eyeliner. He looked like a character on the L Word - was Chris Gaines just a lesbian with a soul patch? - could that be why I have an infatuation with Gaines? - huh . . . a story for another time.

Despite the strangeness of the whole thing, the music was still incredible and so very hard to find online these days - honestly, if anyone has any leads shoot me a DM. After a negative response from many of Brooks fans, Gaines disappeared from the spotlight into isolation -- he isolated before it was cool. The Gaines incident put Garth Brook's in a semi-retirement, not returning to tour until 2014.

Now flash forward to 2020 Garth Brooks has just received the coveted Billboard Icon Award, I, Tricia Black, write an article about how Chris Gaines was ahead of his time and how I thought that he would thrive in a modern world. Coincidence? I think not! This year has been full of the unbelievable, the shocking, the absurd -- Gaines would fit right in! He would go viral in an instant, get that man a Tik Tok account -- Gen Z will eat it up! And as Garth Brooks said in his interview with Radio.com on whether or not Gaines would make a comeback -- "Oh, I don't know. I do think that would make 2020 complete," and I couldn't agree more!

Did my Parton & Pearl article earlier this year bring a possible Chris Gaines comeback to fruition? Most likely not, but I can be optimistic that the wannabe lesbian rocker will resurrect his career. Perhaps we will finally get to see the Chris Gaines movie The Lamb that Garth Brooks was starring in on the big screen -- or at least a Movie of the Week -- one can only dream.

Whether or not Gaines makes an appearance this year, I will be listening excitedly to Brook's new album Fun, out November 20, 2020.
