Album Review: Dan Davidson, Six Songs To Midnight
Following his years performing with Tupelo Honey, musician Dan Davidson forged a new path towards country music. And in just a short few years, some of them trying and arduous given the times we live in, Davidson has made inroads. His 2017 hit "Found" found new fans and he's been heading in the right direction ever since. Davidson's latest offering teems with summery grooves and sing-along choruses. This is exemplified in the pop-tinged radio-staple "Role Models" that soars even with an f-bomb tossed in for good measure.
The Road Hammers lend a hand on the stylish "Roll With It" that is finely produced but with a few welcoming rough edges to it. Riding that momentum, Davidson carries on with Australian singer Hayley Jensen for "Really Shouldn't Drink Around You" with "gin and platonic" one of the better phrases you'll hear this year in country circles.
The singer works to his strengths throughout the EP, slowing things down with the folksy toe-tapper "i Do." The only weak spot comes during "Blindspot" which doesn't quite hit the mark with its slightly subdued tone. But overall Davidson has crafted a six-pack of beer-stained beauties that hopefully will be heard on stage in 2022.
Six Songs To Midnight was released February 25, 2022.
